About The Poetry Marquee<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The Corvallis Poetry Marquee has been a celebrated community project for over 25 years. With the help of Linda Modrell, then a Benton County Commissioner, and David Livingston, the defunct Midway Drive-in Theater sign was installed in 1998 on a building at the corner of First and Madison Avenues. Once the sign was in place, David Livingston continued to maintain the sign and agreed to display poems selected by The Arts Center.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2026 Selected Poets<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Congratulations to the 2026 winners selected by Oregon Poetry Association<\/a> President, David Goodrum. The following poems will be installed on the Corvallis Poetry Marquee throughout the year. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Flight<\/em><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Don’t you wish you could open a book,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

spine splayed, pages fluttering, <\/p>\n\n\n\n

heft it above your head so pages <\/p>\n\n\n\n

turn into wings as you clutch covers <\/p>\n\n\n\n

front and back, and let it lift you <\/p>\n\n\n\n

up, up, up?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Grass and leaf, salmon\u2019s leap, eagle\u2019s soar\u2014 all\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

born in fire and rock, ice and flood. Water the<\/p>\n\n\n\n

start of all that breathes. When you look for\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

your way along the shore, do not discount a place\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

of wild reeds. So much is nurtured in the tangle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Call for Poets Guidelines<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

  • Each author may submit only one application per call (2 poems)<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Poems must be 7 lines or less.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Each line can have no more than 50 characters.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Two poems will be selected. Selected poems are installed in the fall and spring, weather permitting. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n
